Board of Directors
President
Kristen Zucks
president@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: Since graduating from the University of Florida in 2003 (go Gators!), I've worked at a small agency in Longwood and recently joined PUSH in downtown Orlando. As part of the account service team, I've played a key role in building and executing marketing campaigns for Orlando Harley-Davidson, Earl of Sandwich and LUMA on Park. + Expand +
Nickname: Zucks, of course.
Favorite Hobby: Photography.
Favorite Ad Campaign: Bud Light's "Real Men of Genius".
Favorite Website: Craigslist.org
Something no one knows about me: The ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in my left knee is from a cadaver. lck!
Favorite Ad2 moment: My favorite Ad2 moment was at the "Ad2 is Hot - A Hispanic Marketing Program." As a new member of Ad2 and Programs Chair on the Board of Directors, I was thrilled that the second event the Programs Committee put together was such a success. Because of very low turnout at my first event, I was a little discouraged and didn't expect the "Ad2 is Hot" program to be so fun. This reassured me that being involved in Ad2 is truly rewarding and worthwhile.
President-Elect | Membership Chair
Will Royall
president-elect@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: An entrepreneur at heart, I love developing organizations, products, and people. So far I have produced a weekly news show on Fox, produced and sold a record in stores across Florida as a local Orlando / Daytona DJ, ridden a bicycle across the state of Florida to fundraise and raise awareness for people with disabilities (860 miles) with Push America, started a non-profit geared towards the preservation of history, founded two advertising companies (one of which has been sold since), and most recently a real estate company. What's on my plate next? Further developing Ad2 of course! + Expand +
Nickname: "Will", "Where there's a Will there's a way", "Billy" (by Mom and Dad at times still), "Bill" (when someone doesn't know me and just guesses) and "DJ".
Favorite Hobby: Well... surprising to most people I tell this to, my favorite hobby is Civil War Reenacting! If you like history, camping, playing army (without the danger of being in the real army and actually getting shot) and just "getting away" from the technological world we live in today, by spending weekends in an 1860's era – Civil War Reenacting is for you!
Favorite Ad Campaign: Favorite most recent ad campaign is definitely SimponizeMe.com. (Burger King / Simpsons / 7-11) What an amazing marketing piece. Everyone wants to see himself or herself as a Simpson. Everyone is going to send it to his or her friends (viral) and their friends are going to want to see themselves as Simpsons too. Top it off with actually turning select 7-11s into Quickie-Marts and you have an amazing campaign, and partnership between all three organizations!!
Favorite Website: www.RoyallMedia.com! (*plug plug*) Although the site is a couple years old now... We've experienced some serious growth the last couple of years with some major corporate clients, Hilton, Fiserv, TGI Friday's, Ruth's Chris, etc., and have had to focus solely on their businesses rather than our own marketing and business collateral, we plan to release a whole new world of creativity online by 2008.
Something no one knows about me: I can think of a couple things... but you'll have to call me to find out (386-747-1964), I don't give away secrets that easy.
Favorite Ad2 moment: Simply finding out about the opportunity to take charge and serve on the board!
Advisory to the Board
Sara Lamason
advisory@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: From a small town in Pennsylvania, I moved to Orlando to finish my bachelor's degree and graduated from UCF in 2004. In 2006, I earned my MBA in Marketing from the University of Phoenix. I've been involved with Ad2 for about 5 years where I've served on various committees including the Socials Committee, President-Elect, President and now help out where needed. Being involved with Ad2 led me to meet my mentor, secure my first job at House of Blues and meet tons of professionals and friends! I currently work as a Sr. Account Executive at Knight and enjoy everything about being busy. + Expand +
Nickname: I don't really have a nickname anymore, but growing up it was Nicoleski.
Favorite Hobby: Going to the dog park with my husband, Jared, and our two basset hounds, Bailey & Bella Mae.
Favorite Ad Campaign: Mac vs. PC campaign.
Favorite Website: JustKnight.com and MySpace.com.
Something no one knows about me: Growing up I wanted to be a fighter pilot and went to several air shows every year.
Favorite Ad2 moment: Too many to count!
Communications Co-Chair
Lisa Applegate
communications@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: My roots are in journalism, but I'm making the switch to communicating marketing-style. (It's just more fun, honestly.) I currently work for a non-profit organization, but I'm hoping through the magic of Ad2 to branch out into the wonderful world of advertising. In more personal news, I recently rescued a puppy from Animal Control, and she's completely adorable. I named her "Chloe" after both Chloe Sullivan ("Smallville") and Chloe O'Brian ("24"). She already has, like, 47 nicknames including "Chloe, there's no time!" (which must be said in an urgent and scratchy Jack Bauer-y voice) and "Miss Sullivan." No wonder she doesn't know how to come when she's called yet! + Expand +
Nickname: The Gazelle (because of my grace, poise, and balance... when tripping and falling) and Kult Jam (as in "Lisa, Lisa and the..."), courtesy of Steve "SugarKane" McCain whose nicknames for people always seem to contain the letter "K" somewhere.
Favorite Hobby: Can't pick just one! I love to write, read, memorize useless pop culture trivia facts, and sing (badly).
Favorite Ad Campaign: I love the Snickers ad where the guy "sings a song of satisfaction to the world" while the other guy is eating one, and then they harmonize. I actually can't even look at a Snickers without thinking how satisfying they really are. Not only is it truth in advertising, I think it's an extremely effective slogan.
Favorite Website: I would love to say something deep and meaningful here, but sadly the site I visit most often is MySpace.com.
Something no one knows about me: I can do a mean Karaoke version of "Baby Got Back" (my theme song).
Favorite Ad2 moment: The Ugly Sweater Social, 2006. I met Johnny (of Doc and Johnny fame). He *so* looks like Randy Jackson! I'd always thought he was just kidding.
Communications Co-Chair
Steve McCain
communications@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: I co-own a small interactive design agency called Steam Studios. I run it with my good friend, and past Communications Co-Chair, Samson Cranford. As Communications Co-Chair, I also do most of the design work for Ad2 Orlando. So, yeah, I love design. Eat, sleep, and design - that's me. Sigh... I need to get out of the house more... + Expand +
Nickname: Kane, Sugarkane, MG, MJizzle, Steve-rokk, You F#˘K!N' M0+43RF#˘K3R!
Favorite Hobby: Too many to list. But right now I'm absolutely obsessed with filling up my DVD and music collections.
Favorite Ad Campaign: Of today: Mac vs. PC. The ads are simple, funny and engaging without being (too) smug and pretentious. Apple straddles that fine line between "hip" and "full-on snobbery" yet again. Of all time: Absolut vodka's "Absolut bottle" campaign. Any of these old print ads had clever slogans and taglines, but didn't need them. The designs were so strong, that there really wasn't a need for words. (Sorry, copywriters. I'm a designer, so the visual aspect of an ad will always be more important to me.) Absolut has never regained the traction in sales since dropping this legendary campaign (sometimes in the ad world we forget: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.)
Favorite Website: Steam Studios, naturally. Other than that, I love Flickr and Pop Candy. What can I say? I like pretty pictures, pop culture and lots o' whitespace.
Something no one knows about me: I, along with my teammates Lisa Applegate (your other Communications Co-Chair) and Kris Kay, will one day win VH1's "World Series of Pop Culture". Mark my words.
Favorite Ad2 moment: The National Conference in Nashville, Tennesee. Went up there with some good friends, came back with even more. I learned a lot and had a ton of fun!
Diversity Chair | Immediate Past President | Advisory to the Board
Patrick Wellman
diversity@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: I have served on the Ad 2 Orlando (Public Service Chair 2 years) and AAF-O (Membership Recruitment Chair & Newsletter Chair) boards for 6 years now. I was Ad 2 Orlando President last year and am now Diversity Chair for both clubs and I also sit on the National Ad 2 Executive Board. + Expand +
Nickname: Norm, P-Diddy, P-Funk, Man of Steel.
Favorite Hobby: Photography and any Recreational Sport (Basketball, Flag Football, Softball).
Favorite Ad Campaign: The Mac vs. PC commercials still get it done.
Favorite Website: Aside from our Ad 2 Orlando website...
Something no one knows about me: I can cook like nobody's business!
Favorite Ad2 moment: Far too many Advertising Conference moments to mention here.
Education Co-Chair
Wayne Kan
education@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: I’m a Graphic Designer. Graduated from UCF. Got my start with UCF Marketing, and then Fry Hammond Barr. Currently the Art Director of Chernoff Newman, in Maitland. Duties include directing/producing all creative for the Orlando office. + Expand +
Nickname: Boy Wonder, Wonder Boy, or any variation of those two. Wayner (in college)
Favorite Hobby: Baseball.
Favorite Ad Campaign: "Got Milk", still a classic.
Favorite Website: My own, www.wingmandesign.us.
Something no one knows about me: Probably something I still don't want anyone to know.
Favorite Ad2 moment: Getting the Portfolio Review together with all six of the amazing Creative Directors that ended up participating.
Education Co-Chair
Kimberly Truelove
education@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: It all started 26 years ago in a far away place called Jacksonville, FL… Enough with that. I got my start with the local advertising community in 2003 after joining the student advertising clubs at the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!), the Ad Club and Quotes. My senior year I became Vice President of the Ad Club. After graduating in May of 2005 I joined the Ad2 Board as Education Co-Chair along side of our fearless leader Kate Asaturyan. Over the last three years I have enjoyed being a part of this great organization and giving back to the local advertising community as well as meeting the amazing young individuals that are beginning to shape our community. I know that this will be one of the best years yet and I look forward to meeting all of you! + Expand +
Nickname: Hmmmmmmmm…. Don't really have one anymore.
Favorite Hobby: I really enjoy reading and doing home improvement projects (as a recent first time homeowner I find it exciting to be able to do anything I want to my house!)
Favorite Ad Campaign: Back in the day, I must have been 12 or 13 years old, I remember seeing a billboard in downtown Jacksonville for J&B. It read "ingle ells, ingle ells, What's Christmas without J&B". It really stuck with me, which is evident, since it's 14 years later and I still remember it.
Little did I know that this was the first step towards a career in marketing and advertising.
Favorite Website: www.thomasalanphoto.com (my wedding photographer) www.myspace.com and, about 8 months ago, www.theknot.com (If you are planning a wedding it can become a very addicting wedding website).
Something no one knows about me: For everything that I am and that I have done at least one person knows. I don't keep much inside, I enjoy talking to my friends and family.
Favorite Ad2 moment: Working with the Education Committee for the past two years and creating programs like the Mentor Program and Portfolio Review. Getting to know a lot of great people.
Government Relations Chair
Joshua Jones
govtrelations@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: Joshua Jones, 27, serves as the Community Relations Manager for Jobing.com’s Orlando office. During his brief professional career, Joshua has worked in the marketing/communications field, cutting his teeth working in and with political campaigns and fortune 500 marketing departments. Joshua is also a freelance writer and covers various social issues that he feels close to; attempting to make a difference in the community in which he lives.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Joshua had to watch his beloved Buckeyes go down in defeat to the Florida Gators during the 2007 National Championship game. Despite the loss, Joshua still feels that the Gators are overrated and were at an advantage, due to a short layoff between the SEC Championship and the January 8th game. As a graduate of Tennessee State University, Joshua would one day like to see his name next to esteemed alumni, such as: Oprah Winfrey, NFL Hall of Famer, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, and Olympic gold medalist Wilma Rudolph.
Joshua is a second year MBA student at Webster University in Longwood and is looking to start a foundation in his late mother’s name, which will provide scholarships to children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. + Expand +
Favorite Hobby: Cooking, Writing, Reading, Relaxing at the beach.
Favorite Ad Campaign: Reebok, “I am what I am” – Summer 2005.
Favorite Website: www.hbcuconnect.com, www.cookinglight.com and www.ad2orlando.org
Something no one knows about me: If I told you what my secret is, then you would know, now wouldn’t you?
Favorite Ad2 moment: TBD.
Programs Chair
Dominique Brent
programs@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: I realized I wanted to work in advertising and marketing when a deep rooted interest in consumerism and communication emerged in college and wouldn’t go away. And for those who know me – No, I’m not referring to shopping and talking. This field is based on social sciences and problem solving through creativity. I like both, so I’ve dabbled in a variety of positions since starting in account service. I’m currently doing Operations and Production management at Knight – I do everything from place ads with media reps to working on print production and maintaining our project administration and procurement processes. We like to wear many hats here and that definitely keeps things interesting. + Expand +
Nickname: Dom, or by a few -“Domination”
Favorite Hobby: I have a lot of hobbies. There is a pattern emerging - I get sort of addicted to whatever my latest interest is for about 6 weeks and pursue it heavily until I have mastered the skill at a very basic level, get bored and move on. Right now I am trying to learn how to cook better.
Favorite Ad Campaign: I think the TRUTH ads are very compelling and when they first came out, I think it was one of the first PSA messages delivered creatively. BUT - I also love Mac vs. PC ads – just like everyone else on the board.
Favorite Website: Sadly, I spend the most time on myspace.com – it’s addictive. I also am a big fan of youtube.com.
Something no one knows about me: I have a weakness for sour patch kids and Gobstoppers. You can easily bribe me with them for favors.
Favorite Ad2 moment: It is great to hear how being involved in Ad2 has helped students find their way into the industry and I love that we bring organizations and local colleges together to work on common goals. It was also very refreshing to see the community support and donations we were able to gather to support SOAR at last spring’s auction.
Programs Chair
Jennifer Gammichia
programs@ad2orlando.org
Brief paragraph about yourself: I'll start out with a "GO GATORS!" because that's a big part of who I am. After graduation, I moved to Atlanta to attend a portfolio school called The Creative Circus to study copywriting. I then worked at an agency and switched to the account services department. I am the youngest of five in a very close, ("Everybody Loves Raymond"-style) Italian family. I've since realized how much I missed them, so I moved back home to Orlando, and I am LOVING it. I was recently introduced to Ad2 Orlando, and immediately wanted to dive right in. I am soooo excited about meeting so many great people with similar interests as myself. I love the thought of working with such creative, open minds. And I am looking forward to planning some fun, memorable programs. + Expand +
